History
[Image: 533hvm.jpg]Takuya KIMURA was born in Tokyo, Japan on November 13, 1972. At the age of 5, he moved to Chiba, a beautiful city in Chiba Prefecture. Living near the sea, little Takuya was always free to throw himself into the waves. He became a nature lover. Today the sea still gives him energy when he surfs in the sea.

[Image: 2z9fadv.jpg]Son of an interior, young Takuya showed talent on drawing and painting from childhood and was also good at fishing, kendo, basketball and other sports activities. His drawings and paintings were selected often by exhibitions for child. He won sevrial championships in prefectural tourments of kendo and fishing before entering show business.

[Image: 260d8u8.jpg]At the age of 16, he joined a local singing group Smap, starting his life in show biz with a series of musical activities. In the following year, he moved back to Tokyo and played a role in the living theatre "Modoken" (1989) directed by worldwide famous theatre director Ninagawa Yukio, which engendered his great interests in acting. After years of accumulation for acting experience, Takuya participated in a TV series "Asunaro Hakusho" in 1993, and gained spreading poularity.

[Image: 29lxl6v.jpg]In 1994, Takuya won the "Ishihara Yujiro Newcomer Award" for his performance in his film debut "Shoot". By accident he started to grow his hair long in summer and all the young men started copying him. Although he has shortened it often to the chin line since then, the "God of Longhairs" image has stuck. By the end of 2005 the Dentsu Communication Institute Inc. study found "Kimutaku Phenomenon" created an economic impact of 152 billion JPY in one year. His name came to stand for the height of male beauty, nearly achieving common noun status.

[Image: 20128lg.jpg]In 1996, the Asia-wide hit Japanese series "Long Vacation" became the prologue to his legendary success in TV series performance, his "Love Generation" in 1997 and "A Sleeping Forest" in 1998 all got smashing success afterwards. Won critical praise for his convincing portrayal of different roles, Takuya was crowned Best Leading Actor by Drama Academy Awards. He was then the most popular Japanese artist in Aisa, kept creating the records in various fields. Per ex., he was once the face of Kanebo in 1996, the first Asian male star to advertise female cosmetic.

[Image: 2d0nllj.jpg]The hysteria surrounding Takuya might be dangerous, especially gave his talent for "bad-boy" roles. His use of a butterfly knife in "Gift" (1997) prompted a spate of copycat attacks and victims by disaffected teenagers. The series was forced to prune down before got the green light again and forbidden to rebroadcast. During the same period, thanks to him, Japanese had their first beauty clinic for men. (See TBC in Commercials)

[Image: 14uga6a.jpg]In 1997, Takuya was invited by Wong Kar-Wai to star in "2046". Filming began in 1999 in Bangkok but was then put aside. Five years later, the movie had been completed in time for Cannes Film Festival. In year 1999 Takuya started performing a dance Para-Para on televsion, the sensation spreaded right away across Japan and Asia afterwards.

[Image: n642lk.jpg]Ever since the beginning of 2000, he kept breaking the various records that held by himself. Current, he holds the top four spots for most watched non-national Japanese TV series of all time with "Hero" (2001), "Beautiful Life" (2000), "Love Generation" (1997) and "Good Luck" (2003) ranked respectively. Each of these four series scored a viewership rating of over 30% for its pilot. In addition, he also made Japanese TV drama history, when all episodes of "Hero" received over 30% of viewership. He is hailed as one of the most versatile leading men in Japan, tackling a variety of roles from romantic hero to rule-breaking prosecutor and revenge-seeking chef.

[Image: 16jko9.jpg]In 2007, Takuya played a head of a steel firm in "Karei-naru Ichizoku" which depicts the conflicts within the Manpyo family at the end of the 1960s. His outstanding performance won him a Seoul Drama Award and his 7th Drama Academy Award, an unprecedented record. He has also been named "CM King" for the 9th time, in succession for eight years, another record.

Briefing
A coming of age story that follows five young university who form a circle of friends. Tamotsu and Osamu (Kimura) fall in love with Narumi, who prefers Tamotsu. In order not to hurt each other as friends, both young men try to avoid forming a relationship with Narumi which inadvertedly leads to tragedy among the friends. After the accidental death of Junichiro, the friends leave university for various reasons leaving Narumi to continue and finish her studies. A few years later they all meet again to be surprised by a few secrets that are recvealed.

My comment
A drama about a group of friends and the up and down relationships between each of them. I felt that each actor/actress did a great job portraying their character -- there's a lot of good acting in this show, particularly from Ishida Hikari, Suzuki Anju and Kimura Takuya.Despite the few storyline faulterings, it has interesting characters, decent acting, excellent music and is well-paced. I recommend this for anybody who is interested in the intracacies of the borderline relationship between friendship and love.

  • Genre: Human drama, Romance, School
